Roping Lessons

Roping Lessons in Calgary and Okotoks

There are a lot of different activities that happen on a ranch, and for that matter anywhere around horses and cows.  One of those is roping.  Obviously with the invention of technology and efficient ranch practises things have changed over the years, but roping has remained one of the finer arts of ranch life.

Do you want roping lessons?

Blazing Hearts Ranch seeks to create an atmosphere of support to encourage ropers and riders to be all they can be in a partnership with their horse.

We foster a safe place to practice our skills and level up our ability not only for the sport but for life.  We provide the place to allow the roper and rider to grow, their horse to grow and all of the factors to come together to help bring their dreams into reality.

One of the main ways for ropers to improve their skills is through taking lessons and learning from one another. Blazing Hearts Ranch has a number of trainers and teachers at various levels that can supply lessons to ropers of all ages and skillsets.

We also want to let you know that if you are considering taking lessons we have trainers for every level.  If you are just beginning we can accommodate that, if you are trying to increase your skill we can accommodate that, if you are looking to gain a competitive edge we can also accommodate that.

Things That You Will Need for your roping lessons

When you come out for your first lesson you don’t really need to bring anything other than the proper footwear.  Talk to Amara or Danny your trainer before coming out and they will be able to help you.  We also have a whole bunch of equipment out here at the ranch and may be able to help you out for the first lesson.  There are a couple of things that you could consider however if you are interested.

A Rope

We would recommend speaking with our head roping trainer Danny before purchasing a rope, as he will have the expertise needed to answer your questions.

Gloves

If you have work gloves that would be great.   If not if you visit our horse riding lessons page, halfway down are some recommendations that will work.

Boots

Again you can visit our horse riding lessons page to get some recommendations, but good-quality cowboy boots are a great place to start.  Either way for the initial lesson some kind of sturdy footwear, preferably boots would be good.

remember that a ranch is a safe place because people are aware of their surroundings and conscious of what is happening there.  It is a working ranch so there are horses, tractors and people all around.  So be aware and remain alert while you are at the ranch.

Young Children are Welcome

We are also one of the only horse riding lesson facilities in the Calgary area to provide lessons for young children.  Typically you will find that most barns only provide lessons after age 8.  At BHR Amara Duxbury is particularly skilled and experienced at working with kids under 8 at all skill levels.   If you are thinking about getting your child started around horses and they are under 8 please let us know and we can connect with you about what will work.  We also have a number of other parents with young children that you could talk to about what kind of horse activities young kids can do.

When it comes to roping we need to make sure that the kids have the proper strength to throw the rope.  An assessment with Danny would be the first place to start and get a idea of what is possible.

Youth Roping Lessons

A great place to start as a young person is in the roping ring.  You get a chance to learn a new skill.  This can also be turned into new opportunities with high school rodeo and other events like 4H.  These are great places for lasting memories, further opportunities after school and scholarships.

We provide youth roping lessons and love working with young people that are either just starting out, honing their skills or working on their high school rodeo roping times.  We also do team roping and can help with that as well.
